Description
Eros is the Path to Maturation
For the Tantric practitioner, desire is not something to suppress or indulge blindly. It is a force that exposes what remains unfinished within us.
Most people spend their lives postponing life, suppressing desire, and avoiding discomfort.
The Tantric path is different: desire is followed consciously because it inevitably leads to the very places where growth is required. It’s the path to maturation. It promises transformation.
Desire presents a beautiful fantasy, a future filled with love, fulfilment and possibility.
Reality, however, brings rejection, disappointment, abandonment and vulnerability.
Rather than seeing this as failure, Tantra understands this as the mechanism through which unconscious emotional material becomes available for integration.
The question is not: “how do I avoid being hurt?” but rather “how can I move through pain with totality?”
The Erotic Mind Versus the Victim Mind
When desire inevitably brings pain, the ordinary mind becomes the victim. It says: “Why does this always happen to me? I am rejected again. Something is wrong with me.”
The erotic mind responds differently. It becomes an inner coach. It says: “Feel this with totality. Don’t avoid it. This pain is your expansion. This is exactly what is needed for your spiritual grow. Trust this process . Feel the hurt but don’t identify with it . There is much more of you on the other side of this.”
The erotic mind supports growth instead of reinforcing identity around suffering. A useful metaphor is the Spiritual Warrior. A warrior is not defined by comfort but by the willingness to meet difficulty. Just as martial arts requires engaging with violence rather than pretending violence doesn’t exist, Tantra requires engaging with sexuality, desire and emotional intensity rather than avoiding them. The warrior trains precisely through what is difficult. The Tantrika trains through Eros.
After sufficient emotional integration, desire changes. It is no longer organised around unresolved pain. Instead it becomes creative. Curiosity expands. Life itself becomes erotic. Exploration replaces repetition. Enter the erotic mind.
The erotic mind is not merely sexual thinking.
It’s a way of imagining your life that makes your whole body quivering with aliveness.
Thoughts becomes sensual. Vision becomes embodied. Ideas become something to “make love to.”
Instead of compulsive, anxious thinking, imagination becomes expansive, creative and physically enlivening.
The body softens. Breath deepens. Aliveness increases.
This is described as the prize.
One does not begin here.
One grows into it through the long work of maturation.
