Join us for a screening of The Last Ecstatic Days, a powerful film that will inspire new perspectives and ignite meaningful conversations about death, community, and the essence of truly living.
We are delighted to co-host this screening with Lindsea Mitchell from @death_as_teacher .
This thought-provoking story speaks directly to the core of our shared humanity, emphasizing the significance of community, our inherent right to honor the rituals of death, and our ability to embrace the mystery of this sacred transition with open hearts.
In the midst of the pandemic, a young man named Ethan Sisser found himself alone in a hospital room, battling brain cancer. He began documenting his agonizing journey on social media, capturing the world’s attention with his unwavering courage, vibrant spirit, and insightful reflections. Yet, Ethan envisioned something greater: to create a film that would capture the ineffable beauty of leaving the body.
Ethan was a psychedelics student, a yoga enthusiast, involved in meditation, and was in service to humanity. He spent many years with his Shaman on the Big Island, Hawaii, learning about plant medicines and how to surrender fully into the dying process in his final days. It is almost certain that this aided him in his death.
Together, we’ll explore the film’s themes through the lens of psychedelics, contemplating how these substances might aid in preparing for death — ours and others'.
We will be guided through the evening by music, the film, and conversation. The music component will be a short sound experience offered by Megan, introducing us to the rituals of lamenting and keening.
