ASTRA LAGUNA

Astra Laguna are the duo of artists and shamanic practitioners Caroline Mackintosh and Bummela, who live and breathe sound. Ever since meeting ten years ago, they have been weaving sonic magic, holding space, and deepening their spiritual and musical studies together. Originally from South Africa, they are world travelers with a deep passion for exploring diverse spiritual and musical traditions, and are avid collectors of instruments and songs that inspire them.

Their music is an extension of their love for one another — an offering of connection, presence, and transformation. They believe in holding safe, supportive, and loving spaces for those who feel called to join them, with community and empowerment at the heart of all they do.

Bummela is a yoga practitioner, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who divides his creative energy between composing and producing music for independent artists, creating for Astra Laguna, and producing his own organic electronic music. He is a dedicated shamanic practitioner, studying the traditions of the Yawanawa, the Shipibo, and the Andean cosmology. As an 800-hour advanced certified yoga teacher and student of Advaita Vedanta, his life’s work is a continuous inquiry into the nature of the self and consciousness itself. For him, questioning arises from the mind, but true knowing flows from the heart — expressed through sound and silence alike.

Caroline is a visual artist, musician, and shamanic practitioner whose work is rooted in nature, creativity, and human connection. Growing up in Africa and spending many months in the Amazon with her teachers over recent years, she has cultivated a profound affinity with the natural world — a love and wonder that resonate deeply in her music. She is currently completing her postgraduate studies in Art Therapy.

Caroline’s artistic and ceremonial work has always centered on empowerment and reconnection — guiding others to return to themselves and to one another.

Together, Caroline and Bummela continue to deepen their studies with their teachers from the Vedic, Yogic, Shipibo, and Yawanawa traditions, forever exploring how sound, ritual, and love can open new pathways of awareness and unity.
