A Family Constellations Day
Sunday 18 October | Windrush Studio, Johannesburg | 9am–4pm
Some patterns don’t begin with us, but they continue through us until someone is willing to look at them.
You may have spent years trying to change a relationship pattern, stop people-pleasing, set better boundaries or understand why you feel responsible for everyone around you. Yet insight alone hasn’t shifted it.
That’s often because we don’t exist in isolation. We are shaped by the families and systems we belong to and we can remain unconsciously entangled with their histories, losses, loyalties and unfinished stories.
Family Constellations offers a way to make these hidden dynamics visible.
During this experiential day, we’ll explore the patterns we inherit, the roles we take on and the burdens we may be carrying out of love and loyalty to others.
You can attend to experience the work as a representative, or book one of the limited places to have an issue of your own constellated.
What can be brought to a constellation?
A constellation can be used to explore many areas of life, including:
- Repeating relationship patterns
- People-pleasing, over-functioning and self-abandonment
- Difficulty setting boundaries or communicating your needs
- Feeling responsible for other people’s wellbeing
- Guilt about choosing yourself
- A difficult or complicated relationship with a parent
- Feeling stuck, excluded or as though you don’t quite belong
- Grief, loss or an unresolved family event
- Patterns involving money, work, success or visibility
- A decision or life transition that feels difficult to navigate
- A persistent feeling that you’re carrying something that isn’t entirely yours
- A concern involving an animal or your relationship with a pet (I also do constellation work with pets)
You don’t need to know the origin of the issue or arrive with a perfectly formed question. We begin with what is happening in your life now and allow the constellation to reveal what may sit beneath it.
Pet Constellations
Animals are part of our family systems too.
A pet constellation can explore concerns such as:
- Behaviour that seems difficult to understand
- Anxiety, fear or difficulty settling
- Tension between animals in the same household
- The impact of adoption, abandonment or an unknown history
- A pet appearing to carry or reflect something happening within the family
- Grief following the illness, disappearance or death of an animal
- Difficulty making a decision about an animal’s care
- Your emotional bond with a current or former pet
Pet constellations are not veterinary treatment or animal communication. They offer a systemic way of exploring the animal’s place within the family and the wider dynamics that may be affecting the relationship.
What happens during the day?
The day will include guided exercises, reflection, group discussion and up to six live constellations.
In a constellation, members of the group may be invited to represent people, animals or other elements connected to the issue being explored. No previous experience is required and this isn't acting or role playing. You are always free to accept or decline an invitation to represent.
Although only a limited number of people will bring a personal issue for a full constellation (there are 6 places available), everyone participates in the wider process. Representing and witnessing other people’s constellations can offer unexpected insight into your own life and relationships.
The work is experiential, respectful and confidential. You will not be required to share your whole life story with the group.
This day may be for you if:
- You keep finding yourself in the same patterns despite understanding them intellectually
- You’re tired of being the fixer, caretaker or responsible one
- You want to stay connected to others without abandoning yourself
- Something in your family history feels unfinished or difficult to name
- You’re curious about what may be operating beneath a current problem
- You feel called to experience Family Constellations in a supportive group setting
- You have a concern involving a beloved animal that you’d like to explore systemically
The purpose of the day is not to diagnose or “fix” anyone. It is to bring hidden dynamics into view, restore what may have become disordered and create space for a different way forward.
